A K.P. Kundali (also spelled kundli) is a birth chart drawn using Krishnamurti Paddhati, a precise system of Vedic astrology developed by Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti. Where a traditional janam kundli stops at signs and houses, KP adds the nakshatra sub-lord — a finer division that many astrologers find gives clearer, more decisive answers. Reading your KP kundli: sub lords, star lords and significators

If you are new to KP astrology, three ideas do most of the work.

The star lord

Every planet sits in a nakshatra, and that nakshatra has a ruling planet — the star lord. In KP, a planet gives results mainly according to its star lord rather than itself. This is the single biggest departure from traditional Vedic reading, and it is why two people with the same rashi chart can have very different lives.

The sub lord

Each nakshatra is divided further, in proportion to the Vimshottari Dasha periods, into unequal sub divisions. The ruler of the division a planet or cusp falls in is its sub lord. The sub lord is the deciding vote: it confirms or denies what the star lord promises. Because these divisions are narrow, the sub lord is extremely sensitive to birth time — which is why an accurate time of birth matters so much in KP.

Significators

A planet "signifies" a house if it occupies that house, owns it, or sits in the star of a planet that does. Working through occupancy and ownership for a planet and its star lord produces the significator list for each house. Reading the significators of the relevant houses, then checking the sub lord, is the standard KP method for answering a specific question.

How KP kundli differs from a regular janam kundli

Both use the same sidereal zodiac and the same planets, so the underlying positions match. The differences are in method:

• House division — KP uses the Placidus system of unequal houses rather than whole-sign or equal houses, so cusp degrees matter.
• The sub lord layer — absent from traditional charts entirely.
• Fewer, sharper tools — KP largely sets aside the many divisional charts and the long list of yogas, and concentrates on cusps, significators and Dasha timing.
• Answer style — traditional reading tends toward broad character description; KP is built to answer specific yes-or-no and when questions.

Neither replaces the other. Many practitioners cast both and read them together.

Is "kundali" the same as "kundli"?

Yes — kundali, kundli and janam kundli are the same thing: your Vedic birth chart, cast from your date, time and place of birth. The spelling differs only by transliteration from Hindi.

What is KP (Krishnamurti Paddhati) astrology?

KP is a precise system of Vedic astrology that uses nakshatra sub-lords and cuspal sub-lords for sharper, more decisive predictions than traditional methods.

Do I need my exact birth time?

Yes. KP is highly time-sensitive — even a few minutes can change the cuspal sub-lords, so use as accurate a birth time as you can. If your birth time is uncertain, treat the sub lords as provisional; the rashi positions will still be reliable.

What does the Kundali include?

Planetary positions with degrees, rashi, nakshatra and pada; star lords and sub lords; all twelve house cusps; significators; planetary aspects; and Vimshottari Maha Dasha, Bhukti and Antara periods with dates.

What is a sub lord in KP astrology?

Does it give ruling planets or a horary (prashna) chart?

Not currently. This tool casts a birth chart from your date, time and place of birth. Ruling planets, the 249 sub lord table and horary number charts are separate KP tools we have not built yet.

How is KP different from traditional Vedic astrology?

KP uses the same sidereal zodiac but adds the sub-lord division, uses Placidus unequal houses, and applies a stricter house and significator method — which many astrologers find gives clearer yes/no answers.
